1108 PINE STREET was originally constructed as a single-family residence in the early 1900s. Over the course of more than a century, the building has served many lives — including as an antique store, an art gallery, and even as a filming location for The Sixth Sense.

In contrast to many commercial redevelopments that strip older buildings of their character, our approach focused on a sensitive intervention — one that preserved the texture and patina of the existing structure while adapting it for contemporary living.

During demolition, we uncovered a series of original recessed niches hidden within the walls. Rather than conceal them again, each was thoughtfully repurposed to maximize functionality within the compact footprint, becoming integrated storage for clothing, kitchen essentials, HVAC systems, and display shelving.

A particular focus of the project was the design of custom built-ins, furniture, and modular pegboard elements, creating flexible opportunities for storage, seating, and everyday living while reinforcing the layered, lived-in character of the space.
